A Better Keyboard for iOS

If you agree with me, when it comes to criticizing Apple’s implementation of their iOS keyboard and how limited it may seem sometimes, not to mention that it can be quite the pain in the you-know-what when you need to edit some piece of text that you’ve already typed; press and hold until the magnifying lens comes up, then you have to browse to the exact point that you want to place the cursor, etc.. Then the next thing you know is that your finger slipped a little (especially on the iPhone) and so the cursor ended up on a different line and you’re editing the wrong piece of text, so then you just think to yourself, “ah, the hell with it!” so you delete the whole message/paragraph and start again.

… and don’t even get me started on the auto-correct feature.

So I found this really interesting variation to the iOS keyboard that someone’s implemented/rendered to include more actual keyboard-like gesture to it. While I don’t necessarily agree with all of these variations, especially since they wouldn’t be too practical for a device in the form factor of the iPhone, I do still like the idea of designing a keyboard based on a button-control mentality, versus a point-and-touch mentality, despite the fact that these are pure touch devices that I’m talking about.
